After months spent procuring the Snaps, Bobs, Graves, Clique, and Remands, l finally put that Delver deck in action at a Modern tournament: lost. I learned a few lessons, at least. This was a pretty low-key event. Tomorrow, I will be competing for a Modern Masters box. Wish me luck.

Good luck Testset! If you want any advice on playing against pod, folk, or affinity, just ask.

Well today I went against Infect, Ad Naseum, Affinity, and RUG Splinter Twin.
Would have done better against infect had I included more kill spells. Ad Naseum hosed me thanks to Boseju preventing my counterspells. Affinity made me realize that I should keep Go For the Throat out of my main deck. Totally destroyed RUG Splinter Twin, though.
I'd love to hear advice. I have no experience outside of my playgroup, and none of them play Modern.

So this is what I've learned from playing within my narrow playgroup:
Melira Pod: {Grafdigger's Cage} is fantastic here, but since you're playing delver, any tempo-heavy hand should be fine without it. Keep threats like melira and scooze off the board. Linvala is often their only flyer, although some decks run {archangel of thune}.
Merfolk: Kill early, kill often. As long as you can stop them from reaching a 'critical mass' of merfolk and/or devotion, you should be fine, just remember they often have islandwalk
Affinity: One-shot kill-spells need to go to things like {steel overseer} or ravager (or, if you're lucky, an {etched champion} off metalcraft), but your first priority is always destroying any {cranial plating}s. Small sweepers like {shrivel} are great for getting value, and a well-timed {hurkyl's recall} ends games.
R/G Tron: If you have land destruction, use it. Otherwise, {remand} is your best friend.
Yeah my playgroup is pretty small, but hopefully this helps!

Thanks!
Infect seems pretty simple for Delver: kill their attackers, preferably with 2-for-1's when they buff their guys. Use destroys instead of nerfs. Am I right thus far?
What about Ad Nas?

Infect: Spot on, but watch out for {vines of vastwood}
Ad Nauseum: I guess your goal here is to get as much tempo as possible and kill them before they combo off. Make sure to counter any fast mana but try and keep up a counter for {ad nauseum} itself if Boseiju never comes out. You may want to consider {Venser, Shaper Savant} in this matchup since he will delay the combo a full turn and add extra damage to the clock.

I plan to Inquisition the Vines, and Probes definitely help against surprises. Venser might be a necessity (though I loathe 4-cost)... Wish I had a recall, but I do have shrivel.
Think I'll pull Extraction off the sideboard. I liked the idea, but I just don't have the space.

Yeah, I'm gonna start attending Modern events. Hopefully another big prize will be around in the near future.
The local ones are generally done like a poker game: $6 buy-in, all converted into store credit, split among the winners.

Don't really have a usual LGS.
I've gone to Great Escape games previously for Sealed and Draft. They hold Modern events most Sundays, so I'll start going there.
A1 has a hell of a selection (it's where I got my Bobs). Kind of out of my way, though, and didn't like their customer service.
Evolution Comics and Games offers good deals for trade in and sales, but limited selection and no Modern events.
Big Brother Comics was hosting the event for the box, so I'll be checking regularly for another one.

Hey, thanks. Only problem is, this deck is riddled with permission... Would definitely need a scheduled time for the back and forth or it'll take a week to play. Wanna try setting something?

hard for me to schedule a block of time. I sometimes am on the www.untap.in game board for live game. You can try to find me there (less time on there recently, maybe mor ein the future but maybe not) or find a random game with someone else...good site. or I am up for a wall game anyway. I won't want to play any permission deck, your right that counterspell wars won't be fun, but I'm happy to test my black deck, or afinity, or whatever against you. If you are the only one countering, it won't take too too long.

Aight. Guess I'll need to set some counter space aside for the deck.
I take it that's usually how you all do Wall Games, basically old school chess-by-mail style: Set up room on a desk and leave the cards there whenever you step away. Or do you use some program?

I always play with online lists, so that if a game takes a week, the physical deck isn't tied up...also it's easier to save (screenshot, open windows, etc) from an online board. I recomend tappedout for decklists and solo play...its very useful for testing decks and for playing wall games.
If you are interested, post the decklist you want me to play (Or I can play a list I already have loaded to tappedout...but not my faries or time warp decks...countesepll wars suck on the wall) in the wall games board, and you go ahead and take the first turn (usually we roll dice, but I like whoever is posting first to just go first to save time. .

Go ahead and pick a Modern decklist you already have. Affinity might be a weak point, so that could be good practice. I'll try running it via Try Play with the iMtG app. So long as I don't close it, we should be good.
Just don't make me reshuffle the library, because I'm not certain that's possible without a full restart.
