One thing I never got around to doing was to chit chat about cooking! I really do love to cook, and it's a joy I really enjoy spreading. Want to chat about cooking? Trade recipes? Just talk about something you saw or ate? Have at it! C'mon, who wants to talk turkey? For starters...who here bakes? And if you do...and you still use vanilla extract... Let me introduce you to my friend, vanilla bean paste. Seriously, how awesome is this stuff? The amount I would pay for an industrial-sized bottle for home, just to have...hold...love...

Summer is around the corner, let BBQ season begin. One of my favorite is BBQ asparagus.
First thing is to soak it in cold water. Place on a baking sheet and sprinkle with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roll the around on the baking sheet until coated nicely. Throw on the grill to cook.
Eat and enjoy.

Try the same thing with zucchini! It's my favorite food to grill. Slice into coins, drizzle a little olive oil on 'em and sprinkle with some S&P. So good.

I have definitely mastered the art of "Breakfast cereal"
Step 1: Get bowl, spoon, cereal, milk, measuring cup Step 2: Put 1 cup of cereal into bowl Step 3: Put in 1/2 cup of milk. Make sure it is sufficiently spread across the cereal. Step 4: Mix it together with spoon. Step 5: Pick up cereal and start walking to couch. Step 6: Drop bowl, have it fall and hit your foot, then smash and cut your leg all over Step 7: Bleed to death
My dad also is a master of asian food, he has this amazing sesame chicken recipe I can probably find. It's the most amazing thing I've ever beheld in my life, but it takes a good 7-ish hours to make.

I do love cooking Asian cuisine, so I'd be interested! The wok is my favorite pan for sure.

I'll be honest, my wife does all the cooking.
There are three meals I do particularly well, and are occasionally requested:
1. Chicken Cordon Bleu 2. Grilled Cheese 3. French Toast
Otherwise I have zero involvement in the kitchen other that fridge raids and mixing drinks.

A beer can chicken? I'm familiar with a lot of barbecue and a lot of poultry, but I'm blanking on that one lol.
And don't worry Testset, we all start somewhere - I first got into cooking by experimenting with grilled cheese to try and add a little flair to it. Try sprinkling a little onion powder, dried basil, and a pinch of garlic salt to the outside of the bread (the side with the butter or oil). Use garlic powder instead of garlic salt if you're using a saltier cheese (sharp cheddar, for example).
Somehow that evolved into me getting a wok and making shrimp w/ snow peas, and I was immediately hooked on cooking.

I'm a fan of it. Not the best though. My dad refuses to give up the secret. Also I taught myself to make popcorn using a bowl, a match, and a bunch of kernels.

There's no secret to it generally, but whatever your dad does beyond the beer may be his own touch, but beer can chicken recipes are a dime a dozen.
That said, as in any food, the details are what makes something amazing or bland.

Seriously tough question here. I'm going to be baking a birthday cake tomorrow for myself and a few friends. Here's the tough part....
Buttercake (yellow or white) cake with Maple-Bacon frosting featuring candied bacon
OR
Chocolate cake with Chocolate-Orange frosting drizzled with chocolate ganache (maybe white choc. ganache and drizzle of orange liqueur cream)
I have to decide before I get the groceries... Why is orange liqueur so hard to find?

I got home Friday, ready to make the bacon cake. When I was getting everything ready, I realized I was out of maple extract. Was not about to back out to get some, so I settled for chocolate orange. I'll just have to make the bacon one too, next week or so. Won't that be a shame? Meiji Japanese black chocolate makes for some delicious chocolate buttercream, by the way. In case anyone wants to try my chocolate orange icing, here's a recipe it's quite easy. 8 oz. unsalted butter 4 oz. shortening 20 oz. confectioner's sugar (powdered sugar) 3 oz. dark or black chocolate, melted 1 oz. water 1 oz. orange extract Using a mixer, cream the butter, shortening, and sugar. With the mixer running, slowly pour in the melted chocolate and blend it in. Add the water and extract and mix in to finish the buttercream. For any other flavor of buttercream you can get an extract of, just replace the chocolate with 1.25 oz of pasteurized egg whites, replace the orange extract with the flavor of choice, and add a splash of vanilla bean paste for a better flavor!
